Standish Foundation for Child & Family Centered Healthcare is returning to the pediatric cancer center at Augusta Victoria Hospital in Jerusalem on August 16, 2015.

Our journey to Jerusalem is bittersweet. We will be going to the memorial of Dr. Tawfiq Nasser. “Dr. T” as I called him was the CEO of Augusta Victoria Hospital. He was a determined leader, gifted manager, passionate advocate, wise steward, creative thinker, strategic planner, outrageous innovator, and he was warm, compassionate, funny and beloved by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

I’m grateful to have known Tawfiq and I consider it a personal mandate to continue the work we started with him over one year ago. He was quite unique and I consider him one of the most accomplished and charismatic people I’ve ever met.

Tawfiq was born in his beloved Augusta Victoria Hospital. He devoted most of his life to the staff and patients of AVH. He fought cancer with as much veracity as he fought for the rights, services and medication for his patients. His family was by his side when he died at AVH. In between his birth and death, he accomplished so much.

Standish Foundation for Child & Family Centered Healthcare is proud to introduce the “Tawfiq Nasser Fellowship in Compassionate Healthcare.”

We want to Honor Tawfiq’s dedication to support and empower healthcare providers and improve the care for patients and their families. This pioneering fellowship will be open to all AVH stakeholders including managers, physicians, staff, and volunteers.

In order to become a fellow, participants must complete all four elements of our “Passion for Caring” training program. These include: pre-course study modules, training sessions, hands-on training in hospital and post-testing including clinical competencies signed off on by a manager.

Additionally, my wise and talented colleague from the Republic of Georgia Dr. Khatuna Dolidze will be joining me. Dr. Dolidze and I will continue our work with staff, patients and families in the AVH pediatric cancer center. Our focus will continue to be on child and family centered care practices. We will follow up on our previous training and make plans to launch additional training in about 4 months.
