FUNDING FOR GLOBAL PSYCHOSOCIAL FELLOWSHIPS FOR PSYCHOLOGISTS AND CHILD LIFE STAFF
- Impact: nearly 9,000 hospitalized children
- Sites: 8 hospitals across the Philippines and Tbilisi, Georgia
- Healthcare providers reached: 50
- Achievements: Monthly virtual fellowship sessions
- Outcomes: clinical skills improvements, program development guidance, education to build confidence in evidence based care, collaboration, and mentorship
KHECHINASHVILI UNIVERSITY BURN CENTER, TBILISI GEORGIA
- Impact: 1,500 children and families
- Funding:
- 1 psychologist who supports children and families throughout the hospitalization.
- 1 site visit by SF4C Medical Director Arash Babaoff to provide mentoring and training for staff
- Funding for pain management supplies, toys, games, art and teaching supplies
- Outcomes: reduction in fear and pain through the use of the most advanced bandages for wound care along with emotional support, psychological support before, during and after invasive procedures. Establishment of international partnerships with suppliers to provide better bandages and sheets to support pain management
JOANN (CARDIAC) MEDICAL CENTER
- Impact: 7,500 children and families
- Funding:
- 3 psychologists who support children undergoing cardiac surgeries and procedures
- Funding for pain management supplies, toys, games, arts and crafts and teaching supplies
- Funding for Leadership Development program for 5 psychologists
- Outcomes:
- reduction in fear and pain through the use of new pain management modalities along with emotional support, psychological support before, during and after invasive procedure
- Prevent elimination of psychosocial services. Improvement in leadership abilities and cohesion of team
MEDICAL MISSION IN CAMBODIA
- Impact: 50 patients and their families
- Funding:
- 2 Child Life Specialists who provide psychosocial support for children having surgery for cleft lip/palate or Micortia (ear deformities)
- Comfort kits for 50 families
- Toys, games, movies, art and teaching supplies
- Outcomes: reduction in fear and pain, joy and comfort, along with emotional and psychological support
